Things To Do
With stunning views across to the city of Liverpool’s sophisticated skyline, New Brighton’s beach can have a very cosmopolitan feel to it on a sunny day. The three-quarter mile of sandy beach is the perfect place to take a stroll to enjoy the fresh air and views of Liverpool, without the hustle and bustle that the city brings.
Located on the beach is the Black Pearl shipwreck, a structure that a local artist made from driftwood along the River Mersey. Although it may not contain any lost treasures or skeletons, it is a fantastic place to bring alive the imaginations of little ones, who become kings and queens of the seas as soon as they step onboard.
The Perch Rock Lighthouse, that sits on the very tip of the North East of the Wirral, may no longer be needed to guide sailors home from sea. However, it still stands strong after one-hundred-and-eighty-eight years and is a true landmark of the Wirral. Just behind the lighthouse is Fort Perch Rock, built to protect the port of Liverpool. Although currently closed to the public, it usually houses a museum dedicated to aviation and maritime history, honing in on the fort’s defensive past.
As a seaside town, New Brighton is a wonderful destination for children to enjoy and many of the attractions are geared toward families with young children. The Bubbles World of Play is a haven for energetic children, billing itself as the largest indoor play area in the UK. Inside is a range of fun activities, with over thirty zones to play, including a soft play zone for small babies and toddlers.
For outdoor fun, the area is home to a model boating lake and funfair. The New Palace and Adventureland is fun for all the family, with teacups and trampolines for the younger ones and dodgems and the waltzers for the adults.
Marine Point is one of the latest developments in the area, with shops, bars, restaurants and a cinema creating a hub for the locals to enjoy. The sixty-five-million-pound development has brought New Brighton’s entertainment empire back to life with a twenty-first century spin.
